MANY THANKS

I wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported me for the position of Transition Director.

It is my commitment to you to do my best to represent the needs of the membership and the TCRC organization.

It has been a long difficult road that we have travelled and now it is time to turn the page and work for the betterment of ALL of the membership. To put our support behind an organization that will work for you and not for its own selfish interests.

In Solidarity,

Rex Beatty

TRANSITION DIRECTOR POSITION - TCRC

As some may be aware I was required to attend an arbitration hearing on Thursday 11th, 2008, with respect to Conductor Only Pension Credits at Moncton, N.B. (arriving home late last night). As such this is the first opportunity to publicly advise everyone that, if nominated, I will stand for the Office of Transition Director.

Although I previously made my intentions known to my “former” Local Chairperson (by email), I believe it is appropriate, now that the nominations have been called, to publicly make my intentions known.

In stating my intentions I would respectfully request and seek the support of all the Local Chairpersons eligible to vote.

Given the time frame in which the elections will be conducted I will not have the opportunity to talk with each and every Local Chairperson however if any would wish to talk with me (on any matter) they can contact me at my home at 1-705-779-3590. If I am not available please leave a message with a return phone number and I will return the call as soon as possible.

At this time I would like to thank all those people that have requested and support me seeking this Office;

Former colleagues
Present and Former GCAs
Local Chairpersons
And Members

I would also like to thank my friend Garth Bates who wrote me on September 4th, 2008 stating in part;

“Dear Rex,

…I have read on the internet the TCRC’s plan for holding elections at all the various levels of our former organization and I agree with that decision whole heartedly.

The purpose of this letter is to encourage you to run for the position of “Craft Director”. I believe this position is designed to be the former Vice-President equivalent.

Over the last year I have worked with you on a number of issues and I have appreciated your advice and insight.

I believe the members would be well served if you were to be successful in running for this position.

Not only am I encouraging you to run for the position but I want you to know as a friend and colleague I am prepared to give you whatever assistance you may require to run a successful campaign...

…Also, I would consider it an honour and a privilege to nominate you for the position when the nomination papers are out on the property.

In closing Rex I wish you good luck and God speed should you decided to run.

In Solidarity,

Garth Bates,

Former UTU Vice-President/Canadian Legislative Director “

In closing, I look forward to assisting the TCRC and the membership in whatever capacity.

Best regards and in solidarity,

Rex Beatty

TCRC ELECTIONS UPDATE

It is anticipated that elections may (for the newly aquired members from the UTU) commence as early as this Friday.

The first position to be voted on (by the Local Chairs) is the position of "Transition Director". On completion thereafter the Office(s) of General Chairperson will be filled and so on.

Local Chairpersons should be mindful of the above and keep an extra "eye" open for official notice from the TCRC.

In solidarity,

Rex Beatty

GARTH BATES LETTER RE: TIM SECORD

Recently Garth Bates had the displeasure of receiving a telephone call from Tim Secord. The interacion with Tim was extremely disturbing and prompted Garth to send a letter to the UTU International (copied to others).

The letter is in PDF Format and I am unable to post it on my blog and therefore sent it to www.runningtrades.com and requested that it be posted.

The letter makes for interesting reading.

CIRB Moving Quickly to Address FIled Complaints

On September 2nd, prior to the CIRB issuing the Bargaining Rights to the TCRC, an emergecny complaint (Section 19. 19.1) was filed with the Board by Ms. Cindy Little, Belleville Local Chairperson, on behalf of herself and many other Local Representatives (complaint can be viewed at http://www.runningtrades.com/).

The complaint by Ms. Little concerned the many recent actions of the UTU International against Canadian Locals. The complaint requested that it needed Board intervention to prevent, among other things, irreparable harm.

A similar complaint was filed on behalf of the General Chairpersons.

The CIRB has advised the Respondent (UTU) that it has five days in which to respond to the complaint(s) and thereafter provided five days for the Complainants to respond.

I will keep you posted as events unfold.

IMPORTANT: - TCRC RECEIVES CIRB CERTIFICATION

As a result of the recent representation vote where the TCRC received 1809 votes to the UTU's 90 votes, the Canada Industrial Relations Board moved quickly and has, on September 2, 2008, certified the TCRC as Bargaining Agent for the former UTU employees on CN Rail.
